FRAUD

Everyone in business has, at one point or another, lost money from someone who will not pay their bills. It's frustrating and annoying. Not mention, you're out of money that is owed you.

After months of trying to collect money from one such person, I've had enough. I'm going to publicize this story on my website, let the search engines pick it up, and have his name associated with his actions. My hope is that it will prevent other people from losing money by doing business with this guy.

On August 8, 2005, Tom Bynum of Bynum & Bang, a Chicago-based design firm, ordered all the fabric I had in stock of a certain model (black dragon jacquard silk). Luckily I only had 14 yards as opposed to the 100-150 he originally wanted. I sent it all to Tom Bynum via UPS. We agreed on COD payment and Mr Bynum would pay the overnight UPS charges with, I assume, Bynum & Bang's UPS account.

The abbreviated version of what happened next: UPS forgot to collect the COD, and the UPS account had been closed. UPS later tried to collect the COD charges from Tom Bynum, but to no avail. I will get this money back after filing a claim through UPS. I am, however, responsible for the UPS shipping costs.

All told, I did not lose much money. It could have been worse. I could have sent Tom Bynum his original 100-150 yards, and lost money not only on that sale but the shipping charges as well. I could have accepted credit card payment, in which case Tom Bynum could have stopped charges. There are a lot of ways in which this could have been worse.

It's really a shame Tom Bynum is a scammer because the guy does know how to design.
